Our thoughts reflect the state of our nervous system.

When our nervous system is dysregulated, our thoughts become survival based; our brain scans our environment for signs of danger. This causes us to over or under react to situations based on what's happening internally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we are in this state, our thoughts and behaviours are run by our limbic system, or the primitive part of our brain, which makes us reactive. When we are in this state, we must learn how to self soothe. The body must be involved in this soothing to help the mind return to the prefrontal cortex, or the rational part of our mind.

This might look like: shaking the body to clear out cortisol, yoga, brisk walking, deep breathing, dancing, or self-massage to help bring the body into a parasympathetic state.
